Disney World Christmas 2026: What Was Announced (And Why It's My Favorite Time to Visit)
Disney Magic Kingdom Christmas Tree
Disney has officially announced the return of the holiday season at Walt Disney World, and I couldn't be more excited.
If you've followed Let's Make Memories Travel for a while, you probably already know this is my favorite time of year to visit Disney. Yes, Halloween gets a lot of attention (and we love Halloween Horror Nights too!), but there is just something special about Disney at Christmas.
The decorations, the music, the Christmas trees, the cooler weather...it all just feels magical.
Here's everything Disney announced for Christmas 2026, plus why I think it's one of the best times of year to plan a Disney vacation.
What's Returning for Christmas 2026?
Disney's holiday season officially runs from November 13, 2026, through January 6, 2027, bringing festive decorations, seasonal entertainment, holiday treats, and Christmas magic throughout Walt Disney World.
Some of the biggest returning experiences include:
Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party
Disney Jollywood Nights
EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays
Holiday decorations throughout all four parks
Seasonal entertainment and specialty snacks
The Christmas Tree Stroll at Disney Springs
If you're thinking about visiting during the holidays, now is a great time to start planning. Resort availability and party tickets can become limited, especially for the most popular dates.
When Is the Best Time to Visit Disney at Christmas?
If your schedule is flexible, here's what I usually recommend.
Mid-November
Christmas decorations are already up.
Holiday entertainment has started.
Crowds are generally lighter than December.
Early December (My Favorite)
If I could pick one time to visit every year, it would probably be early December.
The EPCOT Festival of the Holidays is in full swing, the parks are beautifully decorated, and you get all of the Christmas atmosphere without the extremely heavy crowds that arrive closer to Christmas week.
Christmas Week
If spending Christmas at Disney has always been on your bucket list, it really is beautiful.
Just know you're also visiting during one of the busiest weeks of the entire year. Expect larger crowds, higher prices, and longer waits.
For our family, early December is the sweet spot.
Why Christmas Is My Favorite Time to Visit Disney
One of the reasons Christmas feels so special to me is because one of the very first Disney trips Stephen and I took together was during the holiday season.
Every time we go back, it brings back those memories. Now we get to experience it all again with Penelope, and somehow it feels even more magical.
We've visited several times during Christmas, and I still get excited walking into Magic Kingdom and seeing that giant Christmas tree on Main Street.
Honestly, one of my favorite things isn't even an attraction.
I love seeing all of the different Christmas trees throughout Walt Disney World. Every park has its own personality, and I always look forward to seeing how each one is decorated.
It's simple, but it's one of those things that just makes me smile.
EPCOT Is the Star of Christmas
If I had to choose just one park to visit during the holidays, it would probably be EPCOT.
The EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays is unlike anything else at Walt Disney World.
Of course, I enjoy trying some of the holiday food booths, but my favorite part has always been the Holiday Storytellers.
As you walk around World Showcase, storytellers in many of the country pavilions share how Christmas and other seasonal traditions are celebrated around the world.
I absolutely love this.
It's fun, it's educational, and it encourages you to slow down instead of rushing to the next ride. Every year I walk away having learned something new about another culture's holiday traditions.
That's something you don't find at many theme parks.
The Candlelight Processional
Another holiday tradition I love is the Candlelight Processional.
I should mention that I've never purchased one of the dining packages or waited in the standby line to see the entire performance. I've only watched portions of it from outside the theater.
Even from a distance, it's incredible.
Hearing the orchestra, choir, and celebrity narrator while Christmas music fills the American Adventure area just warms my heart.
Even if you don't have a reserved seat, it's worth spending a few minutes nearby to soak in the atmosphere.

Don't Skip Disney Springs
Disney Springs is another place we always make time to visit during the holidays.
The Christmas Tree Stroll is one of my favorite free experiences at Walt Disney World.
Every tree has its own Disney theme, and it's fun taking your time looking at all the little details. Add in the holiday music, festive treats, shopping, and decorations, and it's the perfect way to spend an evening.
What About Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party and Jollywood Nights?
I'll be honest—we've never attended Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party or Disney Jollywood Nights.
Not because they don't look like fun, but because we've personally struggled to justify the extra cost for our family.
We've always found enough Christmas magic with a regular park ticket by enjoying the decorations, Festival of the Holidays, Disney Springs, and everything else happening around the resort.
That doesn't mean the parties aren't worth it.
If exclusive entertainment, shorter attraction waits, rare characters, and specialty treats are important to your family, they may absolutely be worth the extra ticket.
They're just something we've chosen to skip so far.
One Thing I Still Miss
If you've been visiting Disney for a while, you probably remember when Cinderella Castle was covered in thousands of sparkling icicle lights.
I completely understand why Disney no longer installs them—it was a huge undertaking every year—but I still miss seeing them.
They made Magic Kingdom feel like something straight out of a Christmas movie.
Final Thoughts
For me, Christmas at Walt Disney World has never been about checking every holiday event off a list.
It's slowing down enough to enjoy the little things.
Walking through the parks with Christmas music playing.
Stopping to admire another beautifully decorated Christmas tree.
Learning holiday traditions from around the world at EPCOT.
Watching families make memories together.
Those are the moments I remember long after the vacation is over.
If you've never experienced Disney during the holidays, I hope you have the chance someday. It's a season that keeps bringing our family back, and every visit reminds me why it's my favorite time of year at Walt Disney World.
